Event Planning | Basil Wedding

20110902_BASCIN_0027Planning and preparing memorable nuptials requires a skilled eye and attention to detail. The successful event must account for all moments, some unforeseen, and manage the seamless appearance of the presentation. Capturing the needs of the couple for their special day requires the ability to multi-task and recognize the comfort of the party and guests. Organizing a wedding or other special event, is much like the process of creating a brand aligned projection.

My process for executing a creative and unforgettable “campaign” is to first identify one specific detail that becomes the foundation for the rest of the event, brand or customer.

For Cindy and George, the inspiration came from their marital name: Basil. The couple sought a wedding day that incorporated authenticity, sharing and delighting in food and drink and supporting the local entrepreneurial community.

We opted to showcase their day in an open green space and then lead a processional to the local market, where a kitchen and cafe served as recreational space for events and education. The North Market kitchen was illustrated in bold yellow, black and red in a rather retro diner fashion. Working with these visuals, and our basil leaf theme, we created a space of festivity and celebration.

Incorporating the ideas of abundance, big family, community and fresh food, we opted to utilize local edible goods as our primary display element. Tables were outfitted with olive oil, bread sticks, wine and fresh potted basil.

Decor populating our event space further iterated the green basil theme. All of our elements were edible, bio-degradable and predominately consumable. Furthermore, it added an element of warmth to our celebration.

An antipasti station was provided to guests as they awaited the bride and groom to make their appearance as newlyweds. The station later became an outpost for cake, cookies, coffee and sambuca.
